Alone he stands neither near nor far
The snow flashes by like ghosts in the valley
As the Sirens sing through the streets and the alley
Alone stands a man who hears their call
But he has no heart to lure at all
He sees no hope and feels no pain
As he walks through slush in the freezing rain
His footing unsure and his path unset
Emotionless as stone, his face is wet
His mind wanders back to a love now lost
He ponders again what so dear it had cost
His heart on sleeve and neck on block
She stayed her blade and let him walk
The walk was not without a price
His heart she stole as cold as ice
The theif knew not what she had sewn
His unexpected expectations remained unknown
So silent he slips on ice so thin
Forever repenting for his sin
With no one to lean on, no soul at all
And no arms or hands to cushion his fall
The pacifist fights to carry on
As the street lights form an early dawn
The light is truth so painful and blinding
Casting the shadows of denial he's finding
Try as he may, the light always finds him
No hiding in darkness, the darkness within
Unphased by the rain that down his face ran
Which would wash away tears if he weren't a man
He cries out to love "Give me back what was mine
Give me that girl for whom I pine."
Love does not answer so he says at last
"Although it is done, bring me back to the past."
Second chances are rare, and he receives none
He'd give anything, even life, for just one
He stops and stumbles with nowhere to go
And his life passes by him as he's covered in snow
